English

Endring av passord på PVV

  • Logg inn på login.pvv.ntnu.no med ssh
  • Kjør kpasswd, skriv inn gammelt passord og nytt passord to ganger.

Passordet bør bli oppdatert innen to minutter.

Passordreglement

Mistet passord / stengt konto

Passordsetting i VMS

Changing Passwords

Changing Passwords on PVV

  • Log in to login.pvv.ntnu.no over ssh
  • Run kpasswd, enter the old password and the new one twice.

The password should be updated within two minutes. If it isn't contact the administrators.

Password rules

PVV doesn't have any particular rule set regarding passwords except those one implicitly gets from NUST, but here are some rules of thumb:

  • The password should be at least 8 characters long.
  • It should contain both letters and numbers.
  • It shouldn't consist (partially or entierly) of words found in dictionaries.

If you find your imagination failing you there is a series of programs that can be used to generate passwords matching these criteria, such as for an instance pwgen.

Lost password / closed account

If you lose your password and can't drop by to change it in person you can send a mail to drift@pvv.ntnu.no with your cellphone number. We will then set a new password and send it to you by SMS, and you can then change it yourself in the manner described above. Preferably give a number that is listed on your name in the telephone directory.

Alternatively you can specify a PGP-key (which has to be in our web of trust) to get sent a temporary password by mail.

This also applies if your account has been suspended due to choice of a bad password.

Setting passwords in VMS

At the present moment PVV doesn't have any running VMS-machines, but we have left the documentation for nostalgic reasons.

VMS passwords are set by that the user logs in on kvartett with ssh on port 24. The username is "adduser", and the password is also "adduser". One then has to declare username and password from Unix (anno April), before one gets asked about a new password valid for VMS exclusively. Log in thereafter happens with the username and new password on port 24 (ordinary port 22 isn't always that cooperative).

To be able to connect by ssh to port 22 on kvartett you first have to log in on port 24 and run SET PASSWORD.
